Directed by Dianne Schaumberg
Freely adapted from the novel by Victor Hugo
The unforgettable characters from the beloved novel come to thrilling, laugh-happy life in this funny and frill-free "festival" adaptation of Victor Hugo's popular literary classic. The premise of this creative adaptation makes staging a breeze: outside the great Notre Dame Cathedral 50 years after the original story's fateful events, a troupe of youthful players leads the rabble of Paris - and sometimes even the audience - in recreating the riotous adventures of the misshappen but tender-hearted bell ringer Quasimodo. Of course, the story wouldn't be complete without the beguiling gypsy dancer Esmeralda and her clever goat Djali, dashing Captain Phoebus, despicably devious Dom Frollo, romantic and starving poet Pierre, the down-to-earth gang-leading Queen of Thieves, comically bitter recluse Paquette, and more! With simple props and an essentially bare stage, this comedy, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, provides a fast-paced, fun-filled opportunity for actors to become engaged in a literary masterpiece with imagination, ingenuity and lots of laughter.

Stages performances improve the community by encouraging young performers to use and share their talents to help others. The beneficiary for Hunchback of Notre Dame is Owen's House Crisis Nursery of Greater Rochester. Available 24/7, this low-barrier service keeps babies and children safe and protects them from potential abuse, neglect or trauma and gives parents or caregivers time to work through the crises at hand. The Crisis Nursery cares for more than 1,000 babies and children annually. http://centerforyouth.net/program/owenshouse/ We are collecting donations of diapers, diaper wipes, formula and baby food for the children. There is a collection box in our lobby.
